MIGHTY NICHE CLASSICS

STAR ROVER
by Jack London

MIGHTY NICHE BOOK OF THE MONTH

This novel is not about Marilyn Monroe. Definitely not. It's about a woman who looked a lot like Marilyn Monroe and had the same stage name. And anyway, it's fiction.

A number of sinister events occur, and Marilyn Monroe (well, not really ... someone who looks and acts a lot like her) is involved. A decade later, a former member of a secret team that once served the President finds what he thinks is an ideal refuge - becoming a janitor at an out-of-the-way, impoverished Brooklyn synagogue and taking an unexpected interest in the Orthodox Jewish way of life - as a well-meaning outsider. Suddenly he discovers that his new name, new face, and new milieu cannot protect him against the past, and Marilyn Monroe's affairs continue to haunt him (well, not really Marilyn Monroe's affairs ... not really ... rather, the affairs of a movie actress who once looked a lot like Marilyn Monroe).

A woman who once loved him re-enters his life. From that point on, with an unsettled score on his hands, he is forced to confront his destiny once again.

To reiterate. This novel is a work of fiction. All of the names mentioned (including the name Marilyn Monroe) and events described in it are nothing more than the product of the author's imagination. Any resemblance to real life names, persons, and events, including the author's own name, is therefore purely coincidental.

Disclaimer for "I Killed Marilyn" ... The novel has nothing to do with Marilyn Monroe, the famous Hollywood actress. The note on the first page clearly indicates that the book is a work of fiction. Even though the real life Marilyn Monroe may resemble the character in the book in some measure, the resemblance is purely coincidental and has no connection whatever to the real Marilyn Monroe's biography. Marilyn Monroe was one of the finest actresses in the history of cinematography. The book does not, indeed cannot, affect that fact in any way, since the title character in it has nothing whatever to do with the Marilyn Monroe every movie fan in the world knows and admires. The Marilyn Monroe of the silver screen and the Marilyn Monroe of real life, to the best of the author's (and the publisher's) knowledge, have never participated in any of the events described in the novel; the real Marilyn Monroe was quite above such affairs. The real Marilyn Monroe's biography is well known, well-documented, painstakingly detailed, and anyone willing to familiarize himself or herself with it (Marilyn Monroe's biography) can do so easily by purchasing the several dozen books on it, or getting them at the library, or whatever. Numerous TV programs dedicated to the real life of Marilyn Monroe have been aired by numerous TV stations over the years. Accounts of Marilyn Monroe's life, penned by dozens of her friends and enemies, continue to be published. There are no secrets about Marilyn Monroe, not anymore. The title of the novel reads "I Killed Marilyn" and NOT, mind you, "I Killed Marilyn Monroe," and even if it did, it would not change anything, since the novel is not about the real life Marilyn Monroe.
